Claudia Ferguson is a Suzuki Violin and Viola teacher with a studio of 35 students from ages 2 through adult. Ms. Claudia's students take a weekly private lesson and a monthly group class. They give solo and group concerts throughout the year. For parents of Suzuki students, the same parent must stay at every lesson to watch and take notes, then practice daily with the child at home. Students are expected to practice at home regularly for an appropriate length of time depending on their age and level. New students should meet with Ms. Claudia before getting a violin in order to be measured and to go over the supply list.
The Suzuki Method is based on the belief is that everyone has the ability to develop talent if trained properly and given the right supportive learning environment at home. The Suzuki method is also called the Mother Tongue Approach because of the belief that a successful way to learn music is by ear first, followed by learning to read music once some fluency is achieved. Ms. Claudia's students are taught to memorize all of their Suzuki music, then taught to read music and understand music theory as they advance.
